What's KK-MAS?
Multi-Agent Simulation is a pioneering and promising method for socialscientists. However, this method has not been used widely yet. One reasonis the difficulty of computer programming. While any simulation for decentresearch require us to control the model accurately and properly, masteringprogramming languages is not so easy for all social scientists.
Lowering this threshold is a key to popularize this method in social scientists.KK-MAS is a software which enable us to build a decent model without in-depthknowledge of programming language. The simple graphical user interfacefrees users from complex task of drawing maps, graphs, setting sequenceetc.... Users can concentrate on assigning rules to agents in a virtualworld, for which only minimal programming skill is needed, and focus onobservation and analysis of the interaction.
Whereas writing rules in KK-MAS is not so difficult to learn, we can represent various interactions and processes in the use of it. Checking sample models [here] and our research results [here], you can understand its multipurpose usability.

What's KK-MAS?
What's artisoc [former JAVA KK-MAS] ?
Now a completely new version of this KK-MAS series is under development. Its name is artisoc. While the old version of KK-MAS was exclusively for Windows OS, artisoc, a new generation of KK-MAS, is JAVA software and you can run it on anyplatform where you can use JAVA2. We completed the trial version in 2005and plan to release it now [March 2006].
You can examin the models constructed by artisoc in the use of artisoc player.
The artisoc player is available from here [English]. You can get models from here [Japanese/English].
